Privacy policy
Updated 20 October 2026 · RoadBlip for iPhone, including CarPlay
RoadBlip helps UK drivers navigate and share road alerts without creating an account. Some features work on your phone; online routes, maps, searches and community alerts need information from your device.
Who is responsible
RoadBlip is operated by Amrani Tech. For privacy questions or a request about your data, write to support@amrani.tech. Include RoadBlip in the subject. You do not need to send your journey history or precise home location to ask for help.
Location, routes and online services
With your permission, RoadBlip uses location for driving guidance, nearby road alerts, place search, saving a parking position and walking back to your parked car. An active drive can continue using location while the screen is locked or another app is open. You can end the drive in RoadBlip or change location permission in iPhone Settings.
Online routing and search send the requested start, destination, stops, search text or nearby coordinates to the service answering that request. Map and traffic tiles reveal the map area being viewed. Road alerts and speed-limit lookups send the current road position to RoadBlip's backend. Requests also expose normal connection information, including an IP address, to the receiving service.
Depending on the feature and availability, services include TomTom, OpenFreeMap, OpenStreetMap-based lookup services, OSRM, Apple system services and RoadBlip's Supabase backend. These providers process requests under their own terms and privacy policies. We do not promise that online navigation works without sending location or that providers retain no request logs.
Community reports and votes
When you submit a report, RoadBlip sends its category, precise road location, optional direction, a randomly generated installation ID, app version and country. A report's category, location and status can be shown to other drivers. Confirmations and report withdrawals also use the installation ID. The ID is not your name, Apple ID, phone number or advertising identifier, but it allows contributions from the same installation to be linked.
Settings → Privacy & data lets you disable community reports or reset the installation ID. Resetting it changes future contributions; it does not delete earlier server records or guarantee that previous reports cannot be linked. Report visibility expires according to category and moderation rules. An expired report may remain in the database for operation, abuse prevention or investigation until it is removed. Contact us about a specific report or deletion request.
Optional automatic contributions
In new 1.6.0 installations, automatic traffic reports and community speed samples are off until you turn them on in Settings → Privacy & data. An existing saved choice is preserved when updating.
- Contribute traffic reports: a sustained crawl may create a traffic report using the same road location and installation ID as a manual report.
- Improve routes for everyone: RoadBlip sends rounded road position, direction, speed and a broad time-of-week value. It trims the beginning and end of a journey before sending samples and attaches no account, installation ID or trip ID. This reduces linkability but is not a claim that all location data is incapable of identifying someone.
Turning a contribution setting off stops future contributions from that feature. It does not recall data already submitted.
Information kept on your phone
Favourites, recent destinations, parking positions, planned trips, character choices, settings and optional usual-route learning are stored locally by RoadBlip. Usual-route learning is off until enabled in a new 1.6.0 installation. Device backups may include locally stored preferences and saved places according to your iPhone backup settings.
RoadBlip also keeps a private, short-lived copy of the active route so it can continue following an already calculated route through a connection loss. This cache is excluded from device backup, expires after 45 minutes and is cleared when you explicitly end navigation. It is not a downloaded offline map or an offline routing service.
Lock-screen navigation and notifications
Live Activities show the next instruction, distance and ETA on the lock screen or Dynamic Island. Where remote expiry is available, RoadBlip sends an activity update token, an opaque activity ID, the current instruction, distance, ETA and expiry time to its backend and Apple Push Notification service so a stale card can be ended. This includes road-name text but not the full route geometry. You can hide the card or turn off Live Activities in iPhone Settings. Planned-trip reminders are scheduled locally after you enable them.
Voice reports and diagnostics
Microphone and speech permissions are requested for voice reporting. RoadBlip uses on-device speech recognition when it is available and does not upload or retain the audio or transcript. A resulting report follows the community-report rules above.
Debug and TestFlight builds may record diagnostic logs, including route coordinates, request URLs, events and crashes, and upload them to private diagnostic storage. The diagnostic switch and disclosure are available in those test builds. This capture is unavailable in an App Store installation. Diagnostic storage does not have a promised automatic deletion schedule; contact us to request removal of a test log.
Advertising, tracking and your choices
RoadBlip does not display advertising, access the advertising identifier or sell data to data brokers. We use information described here to provide navigation, share and moderate road alerts, maintain the service and investigate problems. We do not combine it with other companies' data for advertising.
Use Privacy & data in RoadBlip for contribution settings, and iPhone Settings for location, microphone, speech recognition, notifications and Live Activities. You can remove saved places and parking information in the app. Removing RoadBlip removes its local container; it does not erase reports already shared with the service or copies in device backups.
Depending on your circumstances, applicable data-protection law may give you rights to access, correct, erase, restrict or object to processing, and to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office. Contact us at support@amrani.tech. We may need enough information to locate a report or verify that a request concerns your data, and we will explain when we cannot identify an anonymous contribution.
We may update this policy as the app changes. The date at the top identifies the current version.
